February 22, 2023: Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) and London School of Trends (LST) presented “INDIAN FASHION TRUNK” during New York Fashion Week for the 7th Season.
Khadi fabric is an inseparable part of the Indian culture & fashion. Khadi being a timeless beauty must be treasured for its historical and cultural relevance. “INDIAN FASHION TRUNK” during New York Fashion Week presented by the young designers of Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) was a celebration of the humble, hand-spun natural weave fabric Khadi. Students from pan India INIFD centres; different regions, traditions & cultures showcased their collections bringing their rich heritage forward with “khadi” as the common element in the whole collection. Emerging INIFD Designers showcased Khadi, as a fabric with a balance of tradition and modernity that was witnessed at the ‘New York Fashion Week’, world’s most prestigious fashion week.
Mr Vipul Dev, Consul (Press, Information & Culture), Consulate General of India, New York witnessed the show and applauded the young designers’ for their immense talent and creative designs. He said that “All the designs are wonderful based on Khadi as our Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion. I am proud that khadi has turned all the way to New York and showcased in New York Fashion Week. The show was a perfect amalgamation of east meets west displaying rich Indian cultural heritage blended with western aesthetics.”
It’s a two pieces outfit with a loose fit shirt and denim with open cuts on the thighs both front and back which is esthetically designed by INIFD Guwahati Students Anuradha Jain, Heena Mour, Divya Bhartia, Lahar Agarwal and Hasim Ali. The design is inspired by the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), now named the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, situated at one of the most prominent intersections in downtown Toronto. It is the largest Museum in Canada.
Ms. Chinki Agarwal, Centre Director INIFD Guwahati said that “It is a matter of pride for our city as our student designers who worked so hard to showcase at the premier fashion week ‘NYFW’ and have always brought laurels to the country. Our designers worked on design innovation whilst demonstrating an awareness of commercial considerations when designing and producing an outfit. Students of INIFD Guwahati were jubilant about their success at the most prestigious international platform New York Fashion Week and they celebrated with full zeal and enthusiasm.
The spectacular Collection at the ‘Indian Fashion Trunk’ show was designed on eclectic and vibrant theme of Fashionising Fabrics depicting that khadi can be fashionable and used to create a variety of stylish, contemporary and exciting designs with cool silhouettes including. Designers used Khadi as a canvas for imaginative creations combining with other Indian crafts.
