On the occasion of World Environment Day, Novotel Guwahati GS Road took its message to the streets, actively participating in raising public awareness in line with the guidelines issued by the Pollution Control Board, Assam. Team members walked through the city with placards carrying impactful messages such as “Use Noise Barriers,” “Reduce or Avoid Honking,” “Switch Off Unnecessary Lights,” and “Support Urban Green Zones,” urging citizens to reflect on and reduce their contribution to noise and light pollution- two often ignored stressors in urban environments.

This initiative, inspired by the state’s environment-friendly directives, aimed to resonate with the global theme of World Environment Day 2025, while also addressing local ecological concerns. Novotel Guwahati’s campaign called for responsible civic behavior, reflecting the hotel’s active support for the Assam Government’s ongoing environmental efforts.

Over the years, Novotel Guwahati has evolved into an environmentally responsible business, embracing practices that go far beyond symbolic celebrations. From doing away with single-use plastics to transitioning to glass water bottles and digital key systems, every operational choice is guided by the goal of reducing ecological impact. The property is also the proud recipient of the international Green Key certification, which recognizes its adherence to rigorous global environmental standards.

Earlier this year, the hotel was honoured with the ‘Eco-Innovation and Social Responsibility Excellence Award’ at the 6th Asianet Icon Awards, an acknowledgment of its forward-thinking approach to environmental responsibility. It also became the first 5-star property in Northeast India to introduce electric vehicles to its fleet, further reducing its carbon footprint and promoting clean transportation options for guests.

Reflecting on the initiative, Manmeet Singh, General Manager of Novotel Guwahati, said, “Environmental responsibility isn’t limited to observances like World Environment Day; it’s a principle we follow every day. Our effort today was not only to support the global theme of beating plastic pollution but also to align ourselves with the progressive and thoughtful guidelines laid out by the Assam Government’s Pollution Control Board. As a responsible business, we believe it’s our duty to protect the city we serve and the planet we share.”
