People from the Bishnupriya Manipuri community had assembled at Silchar, Karimganj, Guwahati, and Hailakandi to support the demand raised by the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha to include the community in the central OBC status.
It has been reported that students, youths, and women’s associations representing the community gathered at the Khudiram Bose point.
However, in the memorandum to Assam’s Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the Cachar Deputy Commissioner, Nirmani Sinha, the General Secretary of the State committee of the Mahasabha, said that under a notification vide no. TAD/BC/17/58/131 dated September 12, 1961, the Bishnupriya Manipuri community has availed all kinds of facilities under the OBC category in both state and central government establishments.
Thus, the Mahasabha has demanded a rectification in the central OBC status in the larger interest of the people belonging to the community.
