Bureau of Indian Standard Guwahati celebrated World Standards Day on 14 October 2022 at Hotel Royal De Cassa . Members of the IEC, ISO and ITU celebrate World Standards Day, every year on 14 October which is a means of paying tribute to the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts worldwide who develop the voluntary technical agreements that are published as International Standards.
To increase understanding of how international standards contribute to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals the Standardization bodies has decided the theme for this years World Standards Day as 2022 Theme: Shared Vision for a Better World
Bureau of Indian Standards being the National Standards Body, represents the national interests in the international standardization forum and hence Celebrates the World Standards Day in India .
World Standards day was organised by Bureau Of Indian Standards, Guwahati on 14 October 2022 at Hotel Royal De Casa, Guwahati . Shri Partha P. Dasgupta, Sr. Fellow IIT, Guwahati Technology, Innovation and Development Foundation Inaugurated the function and delivered his speech . Shri. Sandip Samanta, Chief Co ManufacturingStar Cement Ltd., and Dr Harekrishna Deka, Senior Technical Officer, CIPET Guwhati and Sh Meraj Ahmed Co-Founder Of NEAID a Non Profit Organisation dealing with CSR activities were also invited as Guest Speakers.
Shri Sabyasachi Dhar, Director and Head of BIS, Guwahati addressed the program objectives and felicitated the five oldest operative licensees under the jurisdiction of BIS Guwahati viz Indian Oil,, Neccon Power,Assam Roofing,Green Ply and Cement Corporation of India. He informed that Standards play a very major role in achieving sustainability by guiding us to use products which are recyclable, Environment friendly, Less energy consuming, Safe and not Harmful to our Health. It reduces monopoly in the market by establishing a standard which if achieved ensures fitness for the purpose and creates a level playing field for all manufacturers big or small .
In India the ISI mark on a product ensures that the product meets the requirements of the standard while Hall mark of Gold Jewellery with three marks viz BIS Logo, Caratge and HUID(Hallmark Unique ID) ensures the purity of Gold jewellery
Shri Patha Dasgupta spoke on the importance of sustainability in present day Manufacturing, while Sh Sandip Samanta deliberated on sustainable methods of manufacturing cements by going for manufacture of Composite Cement with use of Flyash, Calcined clay etc.
Dr Hare Kirishna Deka discussed about responsibilities of Manufacturers with regard to Plastic Waste Management Rules and threw light on Plastic Credit Model in line with Energy trading in India . Mr Meraj Ahmed informed the industrialists about how Non profit organization like theirs associate with Industries as part of CSR activities to help in achieving Sustainable Development Goals
Ms Adane Kharsi , Joint Director , BIS delivered the ISO message while Sh V K Gauraw Deputy Director , BIS discussed important standards developed within the year.
