Ri Sai, a newly developed cultural stopover on the Guwahati–Shillong highway at Nongpoh, is positioning itself as a new model for highway tourism in the Northeast by integrating hospitality, dining, indigenous textiles, and craft-based livelihoods in a single destination. At the heart of Ri Sai is the Integrated Textile & Tourism Centre (ITTC) developed by the Government of Meghalaya’s Textile Department. Visitors are introduced to the process of Eri silk production, from raw fibre to finished textile, while also learning about its cultural and ecological significance. At a time when Eri silk, or Ahimsa silk is getting popular among users across the globe, the centre aligns tourism with artisan livelihoods, positioning traditional textiles as part of a contemporary economic narrative rather than a museum-led display .

The ITTC is supported by a curated emporium featuring indigenous and GI-tagged products from Meghalaya, including Eri silk textiles, woven bamboo crafts, Larani pottery, Lakadong turmeric, and locally sourced wooden artefacts. The retail component enables direct market access for local producers while allowing visitors to engage with authentic regional products .

The restaurant at Ri Sai is designed as a destination in itself, redefining the highway dining experience. Unlike typical roadside eateries, it offers a well-planned space with expansive views of the hills of Nongpoh, allowing travellers to slow down and dine comfortably. Visitors can experience local Meghalayan flavours alongside familiar Indian dishes. All meals are prepared fresh and served in a clean, welcoming setting, with both indoor seating and open outdoor areas overlooking the landscape. By combining regional food, scenic surroundings, and thoughtful design, the restaurant stands out as one of the very few highway dining destinations in the region that offers comfort, authenticity, and a sense of place.

Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) which is the apex industry body for the machine tool sector in India is hosting the 20th edition of IMTEX. IMTEX is South and Southeast Asia’s largest exhibition on machine tools and manufacturing technologies. At this event, Sir Dhanjishah Bomanji Cooper, founding father of IMTMA was felicitated at Bangalore for his magnificent contribution to the creation of the association. He is the grandfather of Mr. Farrokh N. Cooper Chairman & Managing Director Cooper Corporation Pvt.  As a part of 75 years of the association’s journey, they have launched a special coffee table book and produced a short film where they showcased the invaluable contribution of Sir Dhanjishah Bomanji Cooper. The book and film were released during the IMTEX event.

Sir Dhanjishah Bomanji Cooper was an Industrialist, Politician and the Prime Minister of Bombay Presidency. In the pre-independence period, he strived hard for the cause of social and industrial development in rural Western Maharashtra. He started the first iron plough manufacturing in the Year 1922 at Satara and was President of Satara Municipality from 1923 to 1932. In 1934 the first diesel engine was manufactured, laying the foundation of the automobile era and he became a pioneer of diesel engine manufacturing. He was the recipient of Knights of Garter-the most senior and oldest British order of Chivalry.

A PhD student of Lovely Professional University (LPU), Tanisha Joshi, from the department of Physics has secured the second runner-up prize from the Indian Army. The occasion was a three-month-long “Cyber Threat Seminar cum Workshop- Sainya Ranakshetram 2.0’’ organized by the Indian Army as a Hackathon. Chief of the Army Staff Gen Manoj Pande felicitated the winners. LPU’s Tanisha is the only female participant awarded amongst more than 80,000+ male/female participants from all across India. She has got Rs 50,000 as a cash prize and a prestigious testimonial in this regard.

The event was aimed at providing a platform to identify indigenous talent in niche domains and enhance the standard of training in domains of Cyber Deterrence, Security Software Coding, Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO) and Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ ML). The participation was open to all Indian citizens.

Tanisha revealed her winning expertise in ‘EMSO’, which is ‘Customised Indian Army Specific Stack for Wi-Fi 6’. The aim of the Indian Army to conduct this sub-event was to seek a solution to implement an Indian Army specific version of the Secure Wi-Fi stack for increasing the levels of security. Colonel Nishant Rathee, Commandant, Army HQ Computer Centre got the first prize; and, an L&T employee Suryasaradhi Balarkan first runners up.

LPU Chancellor Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal congratulated the talented student and her mentors at LPU’s department of physics, who instilled in her the related subject expertise for ultimately helping the country and the society.

The Indian Army under the aegis of HQ Army Training Command (ARTRAC) had organised this second edition of ‘Hackathon’ from October 2022 to January 2023. It was aimed to seek solutions to operational cyber challenges, and innovative solutions in the field of cyber security.

Deputy Dean, Prof Dr Kailash Juglan at LPU’s School of Chemical Engineering and Physical Sciences shared that as per Indian Army the event, held under four sub-events, facilitated engagement with the intrinsic talent at levels of individuals, academia and organisations. It has led to the identification of suitable talent in the field of ‘cyber security’ both within the defence forces and in the civil academia. The identified talent can further be utilised for focused engagement resulting in fast-track development of cyber security tools and techniques.
