China barred BBC World news from airing in their country
China has banned the British television channel BBC World News in their country, as said by the National Radio and Television Administration on Friday, just a week after Chinese state television’s broadcast license got revoked by Britain’s media regulator.
According to the statement issued by the National Radio and Television Administration on Friday midnight, BBC World news coverage of China had violated their requirements , lacking truthful and unbiased reporting which has harmed the Country China’s national interests , unity and ethnic soliditary, which couldn’t be accepted.
The BBC news channel in China was only available on some hotels, business and some residential area which included foreigners. As per report, two journalist found the channel turning blank after the ban was declared .
BBC World news has recently broadcasted some news on Covid-19 pandemic in China, allegations of forced labours and sexual abuse in the Xinjiang region, home to the Uighurs and other predominantly Muslim groups, which has been highly criticized by the government of China.
According to the National Radio and Television Administration, the channel could not fulfill the requirements of the reporting in China and thus , this would not be acceptable anymore for the broadcast application for the next year.
Foreign secretary of U.K, Dominic Raab has said , ” `an unacceptable curtailing of media freedom“ that would “only damage China’s reputation in the eyes of the world.”
BBC World news has been disappointed highly after this move of China’s Government. A spoke person of BBC World news said that , “We are disappointed that the Chinese authorities have decided to take this course of action,”
“The BBC is the world’s most trusted international news broadcaster and reports on stories from around the world fairly, impartially and without fear or favour.”
