PM Modi’s biopic co-producer Amit Wadhwani receives online death threat, files complaint with cyber cell
Industrialist Amit B Wadhwani, the co-producer of PM Narendra Modi, the biopic on the Prime Minister featuring Vivekanand Oberoi in the lead and directed and co-produced by Sandip Ssingh, has lodged a complaint with the cyber cell after receiving death threats online. A Facebook account by the name of Optimistix strongly objected to his association with the movie which will re-release in cinemas, soon. Posting an image of his infant child and him, the Facebook user threatened him with life and made slanderous remarks about his family.
Amit says, “I am alarmed. Unlike the hate content or sensitive content, the post on which threats were received was simply a movie announcement and that too a biopic of the Prime Minister. I was shocked with the reaction. There was nothing outrageous about saying that my film is re-releasing. It’s unfortunate that law abiding citizens like us are made a target of vicious hate propaganda.
The threats prove that cyberbullying is no longer a rare occurrence. It’s a norm now. Specifically in Bollywood, which has been in the midst of controversy, a specific unfortunate incident is used to malign anyone remotely connected with the industry.”
Talking about the problems filmmakers face while releasing their content, Amit adds, “Filmmakers always fallen prey to agendas. Given that a lot of money is at stake, Bollywood is a soft target. The industry is increasingly seen through the political lens instead of an artistic lens. The problems in current times have been compounded due to the recent controversies which has made public opinion adverse. With movie theatres still off limits for public and Government restrictions in place, Bollywood is hit severely due to the lockdown.”
