The BJP today came down heavily on the Congress Party President Shri Bhupen Borah , accusing him of constantly using cheap publicity tactics to ridicule the state government in the illusional design of criticising its policies. “In democracy it is inevitable that there will always be difference of opinions as it is the right of the opposition to register constructive criticism. However, the kind of language and gesture used by the President of the APCC undermines the democratic taste of the State”- this was opined by State BJP spokesperson Shri Manoj Baruah.
Addressing media persons in the State headquarters of the Assam BJP, Baruah asked the Congress party as the chief opposition party in the State, to take up relevant issues of the people and offer genuine criticism on the matters on board.
This was however missing from the choice of language used by them, with the role played by Shri Bhupen Borah hardly making any difference from the kind of entertainment provided by tabloid or yellow journalism as opined by Mr Baruah.
Baruah slammed the opposition by stating that this is highly detrimental to the spirit of a democratic discourse.
Manoj Baruah further went on to add that the APCC President is himself unaware of the role that is needed to be played by him in the Congress party or in the Opposition, due to which he appears to be stranded, unfocussed and unclear .
His distasteful public registration of discord by using unparliamentary gestures against the Chief minister of the State ,addressing him as ‘Kansa’, can be viewed as a petty show of disgraceful and desperate opposition against a Constitutional machinery.
Mr Baruah further added that the pro-people government as lead by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has been able to earn massive support of the populace which has been corroborated by landslide victory in every form of electoral battle in the State. All of this has made the Congress party desperate and insecured with the leaders and workers of the party projecting unpleasant remarks on the government in vile attempts to grab eyeballs and media limelight.
Adding further, Shri Manoj Baruah, asked Bhupen Borah to respect the chair and position of the President of the Congress party as the principal opposition party of Assam,by maintaining proper etiquette and decorum. Also present during the press meet was senior leader spokesperson Smt Janki Khaund.
