Reliance Retail has accelerated the roll out of its new commerce initiative for merchants and kiranas in Guwahati with a new campaign for its JioMart Partner App and the JioSmart Kirana programme. This is in line with its vision to promote inclusive growth and shared wealth for merchants and micro entrepreneurs at the bottom of India’s commerce and retail pyramid.
Through its new campaign Reliance will reach out to kiranas and merchants in Guwahati with the comprehensive set of new commerce offerings including the Jio Partner App, JioPOS platform as well as the JioSmart Kirana Partner proposition.
JioSmart Kirana Programme also available for shopkeepers and kiranas
JioMart Partner: Merchants can become a JioMart Partner by downloading the JioMart Partner app on their mobile phone and start ordering – with the core proposition of Buy Better and Get Free Next Day Delivery.
JioSmart Kirana Programme: Merchants and shopkeepers can also become part of the JioSmart Kirana Programme by opting for the tech-enabled JioPOS device against a refundable security deposit of Rs 3000. The JioPOS device can be used for placing orders, to manage inventory, for billing and invoicing of all customer purchases, accepting digital payments as well as to offer savings on consumers’ billings. The shopkeeper can also send discount coupons to the consumers through this POS device and the discount coupon can be redeemed on the JioPOS at the time of billing. The JioPOS also allows merchants to accept cards and other digital modes of payment.
Once the kirana / merchant maintains a specific level of ordering and inventory through the JioPOS, and has necessary capability to undertake home delivery, Reliance Retail will integrate such kiranas with the JioMart consumer app. These kiranas will then become JioSmart Kirana Stores and will start receiving online orders placed on JioMart by consumers in their neighbourhoods.
Store Transformation: Merchants can also choose to modernise their stores into self service outlets through a convenient and affordable store transformation option offered under the programme.
Over the past year, over 3 lakh merchants or shop keeper partners across 150 cities were enabled and empowered to transform their businesses both physically and digitally under the new commerce initiative.

Speaking on this promise for the merchant partners, Mr Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Industries Ltd had said at the last AGM in June 2021, “a testament to this promise is that we have seen a 3x growth in kirana orders and 2x growth in order frequency. Expansion across cities is well underway and we will onboard over one Crore merchant partners over the next three years. This will trigger a socio-economic transformation on an extraordinary scale in India, especially when coupled with our mission of employment generation.”
The JioMart kirana partner solution aids transformation of even the smallest neighbourhood kirana shop to a future-ready digitized store with technology enabled sourcing and selling capabilities. This ensures that the humble kirana continues to serve its consumers alongside modern retailers and large e-commerce platforms. Thousands of kiranas across several cities have already experienced the benefits of this technology enabled solution by partnering with JioMart during the pandemic when most sources of supplies were disrupted.
