Dibrugarh University has decided to cancel their Student Union Election this year and the students are not taking it lightly
Dibrugarh: Students of Dibrugarh University are enraged over the cancellation of Student Union Election of University. Specifically the interested candidates and their supporters are pretty unhappy with the news and have made quite a big noise.
A huge uproar has erupted in the Dibrugarh University over the cancellation of the Students’ Union election.
Election of the Dibrugarh University Students’ Union were suppose to be held this year but the authorities have some other plans. The authorities have cancelled the Election stating “disagreement among students relating to filing of nomination papers for the conduct of the elections.” As a reason behind the decision.
On Monday 15th of February 2021 The Registrar of Dibrugarh University issued a notification where the registrar stated that the election for the DUPGSU seems to be “not feasible” as scheduled as the Returning and Assistant Returning Officers for the elections tendered their resignations.
The notification from the registrar’s office read “The Competent Authority of the Dibrugarh University has decided to cancel the ongoing election process for DUPGSU, 2021,”
But this was not something a fraction of students were going to accept silently. A section of the candidates and their supporters are crying foul play over the cancellation of the elections.
Where as some candidates are alleging that the elections to the DUPGSU were cancelled by the Dibrugarh University authorities because of a “secret understanding” between the authorities and another section of candidates.
The fraction of students who are enraged over the decision of Dibrugarh University Authorities for the cancellation students union election of 2021 have started a protest which growing bigger and bigger. Protesters are demanding to allow the election to be held. On Tuesday 16th of February 2021 the protesting students sat with the authorities to discuss over the issue but the meeting failed to get any result.
