GUWAHATI, SEPTEMBER 20, 2024: Stars of North East India (SONEI), a registered public charitable trust, formed with the objective of unearthing, nurturing, mentoring, and showcasing the talents of the youth of North East India, celebrated its tenth anniversary on Thursday.
A global webinar was organised to mark the occasion in which members located in India and abroad participated.
Three new members were formally inducted into SONEI viz Dr Mustafa A Barbhuiya, Pakeezah Rahman, and Pakeeza Khatun. Currently, Dr Mustafa Barbhuiya is the Medical Director of Clinical Chemistry and Point of Care Testing at the Department of Pathology, Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA, USA.
This year, Dr Barbhuiya was named in ‘The Pathologist’ magazine’s Power List as one of the Top 100 most influential people in pathology in 2024, specifically, as one of the Top 20 Heroes of Pathology. Pakeezah Rahman is the co-founder of MJI Group & MJI Perfumes. She has a Master’s in Business Administration (HR) from Pune University.
Pakeeza Khatun did her BA LLB (Honours in Criminology) from JB Law College under Gauhati University in 2019. She was enrolled as an advocate in Gauhati High Court in 2021. Her litigation skill is client counselling, with expertise in drafting and review – legal research.
Mumeninaz Zaman, Director, ‘Sonei Lights Up’ project presented a report highlighting the financial support extended by SONEI over the years to meritorious students from BPL families to pursue their education. Nazia Laskar, Director, ‘Sonei Cares’ project informed the audience about the support extended by Sonei to the victims of natural calamities especially the poor and needy who were affected by the pandemic during 2020-2022.
Iftikar Hussain Siddique, Director, Development & Programmes, showcased the different programmes undertaken by Sonei for the motivation and skill development of youth.
Subhankar Banerjee, Director, PR & Publicity, presented a report on the digital initiatives taken by Sonei.
Sharique Hussain, entrepreneur; Indrani Tapati, mixed martial art exponent; and Shayesta Kibriya, baker and confectioner, were among several members who participated in the programme “One Minute Burst” to share their memorable experiences with Sonei during the past ten years.
At the outset, Sabah Al Ahmed poet had led the invocation while Farnaaz Islam, painter and Sunayana Dutta, film maker presented songs to give a musical touch to the webinar. Suaid M Laskar, founder of “Career Grad Global” hosted the webinar.
