India captain Virat Kohli may step down as limited-overs captain, and Rohit Sharma, who is presently the vice captain might take over. Speculations of this sort have been circulating for quite some time. It is expected that Kohli would make the major news shortly.

According to sources, Kohli struggles to manage three different types of cricket matches. He has wanted to concentrate more on his batting performance and return to being the greatest batsman in the world, which he has always been. On the other side, Rohit has also served as Kohli’s stand-in skipper on occasion and done well.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Team India’s 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2021. The squad featured R Ashwin, the off-spinner, who returned to the white-ball side after a lay-off.

MS Dhoni was also named as the mentor for the team during the course of the tournament.

India’s 15-man squad:

Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohd Shami.

Standby players – Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar.

As soon as BCCI has announced the 20 members Indian squad for World Test Championship final 2021 against New Zealand to be played at Southampton, England, it also published team India’s plan for World Test Championship (WTC).

Team India lead by Virat Kohli will start its preparation for the WTC final from May 25 when they start their quarantine here in India for 8 days. The Indian squad will stay in quarantine for 10 days in England before the final.

According to a BCCI official, “You can expect the boys to come into the bubble on May 25 as it will be an eight-day quarantine period which will not just involve testing against Covid-19, but also there will not be any movement as the boys prepare for the UK schedule.”

“Once in the UK on June 2, the boys will go for another 10-day quarantine. But this time the cricketers can train as they are moving from the bubble in India to the bubble in England in a charter plane. A bubble-to-bubble move lets them train even though there will be continuous testing at all times and no further movement,” the statement added.

As Team India is scheduled to stay in England for 3 months, players are being allowed to travel with their families.

“Not just the duration of the tour, the Covid-19 restrictions also mean you cannot move around the place. There will be more than a month’s gap between the Test Championship final and the opening Test against England in Trent Bridge from August 4. The players will have their families traveling with them,” the official said.

Vaccination of Indian squad for World Test Championship Final

Regarding the vaccination of the player, the official said that the Govt. of India has opened vaccination for every person above 18, so the players can take their first dose.

“The Indian government has opened vaccination for every person above 18 so the players can take their first dose,” the official said.

“But the second dose is the question here and while the BCCI is looking at working closely with England and Wales Cricket Board to ensure players can get a second dose in the UK if that is not approved by the UK government, we will have the vaccine taken from India for the second dose. Let’s see how that works out in the coming days.”

On Friday, BCCI announced the 20 members Indian squad for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand. The team includes Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (Captain), Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), R. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Shami, Md. Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav, KL Rahul (subject to fitness clearance), Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper; subject to fitness clearance).

IPL 2021: The 13th season of IPL has been suspended indeterminately until further notice after some players and support staff from different franchises tested positive for COVID-19. This decision has come unanimously from the Indian Premier League Governing Council and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after an emergency meeting.

The official statement states, “The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff, and the other participants involved in organizing the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health, and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind. These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times.

The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021. The BCCI would like to thank all the healthcare workers, state associations, players, support staff, franchises, sponsors, partners, and all the service providers who have tried their best to organize IPL 2021 even in these extremely difficult times.”

Why IPL 2021 Suspended?

The questions started to raise to suspend the tournament after two members of KKR tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. After that, the match between KKR and RCB was postponed. CSK was also asked to quarantine themselves as three of their support staff tested positive. In the recent update, Wridhiman Saha of Sunrisers Hyderabad tested positive for COVID-19.

As the COVID-19 positive cases are coming out from several IPL teams it is clear that the bio bubble of the teams has been compromised.

What questions arise after IPL 2021 Suspension?

The 2020 edition of IPL was held in UAE and not a single positive case was reported during the tournament.
After all these incidents, one of the most important questions that arise is the safety of the foreign players and how will they return home? BCCI has to deal with financial losses that will take place because of the postponement of the tournament too. Earlier, a few foreign players have already left the tournament and gone back to their homes.
