‘Bhaimon Da’ is based on the life and legacy of the late Munin Baruah, a prominent figure in the Assamese film industry. He was an iconic film director and screenwriter who played a crucial role in establishing and popularizing Assamese cinema. Out of respect and affection, people referred to him as ‘Bhaimon Da,’ which is also the title of the movie.
The story, screenplay, and dialogues have been penned by Sasanka Samir quoted “In this film, we aimed to showcase the contributions of Munin Baruah to the Assamese cinema industry, collaborating with the talented artists of Assam.”
“Bhaimon Da”, an Assamese biographical drama, has grossed ₹13.01 crore (US$1.5 million) worldwide. It is currently the second-highest-grossing Assamese film of all time. The movie, which is a tribute to legendary filmmaker Munin Barua, was released on May 23, 2025.

The biopic not only highlighted the struggles and milestones of the Assamese film industry but also paid tribute to Brajen Baruah, a pioneering figure whose iconic film Dr. Bezbaruah earned the National Award for Best Feature Film in a Regional Language. From Jatin Bora , Ravi Sarma to Zubeen Garg, Munin Barua paved the silver screen way for these stars. In 2000, his film Hiya Diya Niya featuring Jatin Bora and musically Zubeen Garg became a first ‘blockbuster hit’ in Assamese cinema, which helped to revive the Assamese film industry. His another film, Dinabandhu received National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Assamese in 2005.
Adding to this, Bhaimonda’s biopic is currently the second highest grossing Assamese cinema right after Sri Raghupati (13.81cr) and before Bidhurbhai (11+cr). This indicates the first ever biopic of Assamese cinema was widely accepted by the Assamese audience and with this the demand of biopics in Assam might not be a new ask for director Sasanka Samir.
