Two persons were killed and three others injured as massive boulders rolled down a hill and crushed their cars in Nagaland’s Chumoukedima district on Tuesday evening.
The incident took place on National Highway 29 near Old Chumoukedima police checkpost around 5 pm, officials informed. The cars were coming from the Kohima side during the accident.
A video, captured by the dash camera of a vehicle waiting behind, shows the boulders rolling down the hill and crushing three cars.
One person died on the spot, while another person succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at the Referral Hospital. The injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital, officials said.
The police informed that one person is still stuck inside one of the cars and work is underway to bring him out.
Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and said that the state government is taking all necessary steps to provide emergency services.
He also announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and the necessary medical assistance and help to the injured.
